IV International Seminar
on Plastics Legislation 2023
A key event for the industry
24 - 25 MAY
VALENCIA, SPAIN
You will learn about all the legal measures that can affect your company and how to implement them.
The purpose of the seminar is to present the current situation, new developments and trends in legislation and standards regulating the plastics industry.
In the next few years, legislative changes are expected to affect the way products are conceived, particularly those containing plastic, as established in the European Green Pact and the New Circular Economy Plan for a cleaner and more competitive Europe.
Other factors expected to have an impact may arise in different fields such as new limitations on substances as part of the REACH regulation, new plastics legislation, food contact materials and other international regulations.
All this heralds times of change, which will be both a challenge and an opportunity for the plastics industry. The challenge will involve adapting to new demands, whereas opportunities will come from new developments that demonstrate the many virtues of plastic, and that contribute specific solutions in areas such as climate change, food waste and health protection.

Topics
SESSION 01

Legislative developments and trends at international level
The goal of this first block is to introduce the trends and legislative bills in process, especially those related to the global plastic pollution treaty, EU ecodesign directive, microplastics regulations and other regulatory measures.
Waste law: tax on plastics
In this block, the impact will be assessed of charging a tax on non-reusable plastic packaging in Spain. Ways of addressing this issue will also be proposed.

SESSION 02
SESSION 03

The REACH regulation
The regulation for control of importation and production of substances and mixtures is continuously updated to guarantee safe use of products.
It is therefore important to be aware of all new developments in this complex legislation, such as the registration of polymers, prohibitions and restrictions on substances of concern such as phthalates and TiO2, and the possibility of applying this regulation to recycled material.
Avoiding greenwashing through product certification
This unrecommended practice is becoming more and more common in consumer products and is known to create confusion and misinformation. This block will cover different tools for certifying products and thus provide proof that their production procedures are aligned with respect for the environment.

SESSION 04

SESSION 05
Food contact plastic
Concerns about food safety continue to grow, especially because an increasing number of products on the market are made of materials that have not been tested for food use and could cause health problems.
In this block, new developments in plastics legislation and recycled plastic used for food contact will be presented.
